What materials are used to make molds for Dalian precision casting?
Dalian precision casting uses fusible materials (such as wax or plastic) to make a fusible model (investment mold or model for short), which is coated with several layers of special refractory coatings. After drying and hardening to form a whole mold shell, the mold is melted off from the mold shell with steam or hot water, and then the mold shell is placed in a sand box, and the surrounding is filled with dry sand for molding, Finally, the mold is put into the baking furnace and baked at high temperature (for example, when using high-strength shell, the mold shell after demoulding can be directly baked without molding). After the mold or shell is baked, molten metal is poured into it to obtain the casting.
The great advantage of investment casting is that because investment castings have high dimensional accuracy and surface finish, they can reduce machining work, just leave a little machining allowance for parts with high requirements, or even leave only grinding and polishing allowance for some castings, which can be used without machining. It can be seen that the investment casting method can greatly save machine tools, equipment and working hours, and greatly save metal raw materials.
The materials for stainless steel precision casting die can be wood, processable plastic, aluminum alloy, cast iron, steel, etc.
At present, wood mold is still widely used in manual molding or small batch production of single piece, but with the restriction of environmental protection requirements and poor wood processing performance, it will be replaced by full mold casting. Full mold casting is made of foamed plastic plate, cut and pasted into patterns, and then poured into castings. This method has shorter cycle and lower cost than wood mold.
The application of plastic mold is on the rise, especially the application of processable plastics is increasingly widespread.
Aluminum alloy die is widely used because of its light weight and high dimension accuracy. However, the application has decreased recently, and some of them have been replaced by plastic molds and cast iron molds.
